Throw in a couple of beloved actors in the lead roles and fun supporting turns by Kevin Kline and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and it really should have been something special rather than what it is: a likeable, admirably ambitious, but deeply flawed oddity.

Kogonada makes Seth Reiss’ screenplay sing with elevated versions of the crisp visuals, nuanced performances and, most importantly, consistent tone that define his independent efforts.

“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” lacks substance and ends up feeling more like a Hallmark Channel experiment than a meaningful romance.
